Hey everyone,Every single year without fail, the week before Thanksgiving my inbox and DMs explode with the same questions:
“Is Planet Fitness open on Thanksgiving?”
“Does 24 Hour Fitness really close on turkey day?”
“LA Fitness Black Friday hours?”
“EOS, Crunch, Lifetime, Vasa… help!”
So let’s end the madness and make one giant master thread for 2025.
I just spent way too much time calling corporate numbers, checking official sites, and cross-referencing member apps (because Google Trends literally shows these searches spiked 2,000-3,400% in the last 7 days).
Here’s what I found for Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov 27, 2025) and Black Friday (Nov 28, 2025) at the biggest chains in the US. Hours can vary slightly by franchise location, so ALWAYS call your specific club the day before.
Thanksgiving Day 2025 (Thursday, Nov 27)
Planet Fitness → Almost all locations CLOSED (a handful of franchise-owned spots may open limited hours 7am–1pm, but 95%+ closed)
24 Hour Fitness → All locations CLOSED (even the “24 hour” ones) CLOSED on Thanksgiving
LA Fitness → CLOSED nationwide
Crunch Fitness → CLOSED
EOS Fitness → CLOSED
Life Time → All athletic resorts CLOSED
VASA Fitness → CLOSED
YouFit → CLOSED
Anytime Fitness → Varies by owner; roughly 60% open with key fob 24/7 access, but staffless
Gold’s Gym → Most CLOSED, some franchise locations open limited hours
YMCA → 90%+ CLOSED (a few family Ys open morning only)
Black Friday 2025 (Friday, Nov 28)
Most gyms go back to normal or extended hours because they know everyone wants to burn off the pie: Planet Fitness → Regular hours (most 24/7 locations never closed)
24 Hour Fitness → Normal hours, many Super-Sports open 5am–11pm
LA Fitness → Normal hours + many open as early as 5am
Crunch → Packed by 6am, normal hours
EOS → Normal hours
Life Time → Opens 5 or 6am in most markets
VASA → Normal hours
Pro tips from years of doing this:
Screenshot your gym hours the week before; apps sometimes glitch on holidays.
If your gym is 24/7 with key fob access (Planet Fitness, Anytime, some Snap Fitness), you can technically get in even if it’s “closed,” but no staff, no childcare, no classes.
Hotels gyms (Marriott, Hilton, etc.) are usually your best bet if you’re traveling—most are open 24/7 for guests.
Don’t be the person who shows up at 6am on Thanksgiving expecting a smoothie bar. It will be dark and sad.
Drop your gym below if it’s NOT on this list and tell us your location and hours—I’ll keep editing the original post. Let’s make this the one-stop thread so nobody has to Google at 2am after their third piece of pumpkin pie.Happy lifting (or couch-laying—no judgment),—Jake
