Yo, quick question for the squad 👋 Anyone here running a Peloton without the $44/month sub in 2025?
I copped a used Bike+ last month (solid hardware, ngl 💪), but the sub fees are killing me. $528 a year just to pedal in my living room feels wild, esp. when other fitness tech is moving toward no-sub models (looking at you, smart rings).
Here’s what I’ve figured out so far with my no sub Peloton setup:
What You Get Without a Subscription
Just Ride / Just Run Mode → Tracks basics: time, distance, cadence, resistance, HR, calories. Feels like a normal spin bike with a fancy screen.
Free Content → 2–3 on-demand classes (beginner style, ~20 min).
Entertainment Options → YouTube works fine in the browser. Netflix takes some work (Nova Launcher hack, shoutout Reddit 🙏).
Hardware Still Works → Auto-resistance on Bike+, safety lock on Tread, Bluetooth pairing, etc.
Not bad for zero bucks, tbh.
Downsides + Workarounds
No Leaderboards, No Live Classes → You lose the “community energy.” Honestly, it feels like a $700 spin bike at times 😅.
Limited Content → Once you burn through the freebies, it’s DIY.
Hacks Exist → Side-load Netflix, Plex, or use YouTube spin workouts. Zwift’s an option too ($15/month, cheaper than Peloton).
Alternatives → Schwinn IC4 + YouTube = $200 setup. Kinda crazy how similar it feels.
Open Question 🤔
I saw on Bloomberg (Jan 2025) that Peloton’s slashing costs again. Think they’ll unlock more free content soon? Would be a smart move to keep hardware relevant.
So what do you all think? Is Just Ride enough? Or did you sell your Bike/Tread and move on? Drop your hacks, especially if you scored a good second-hand price. I’ll update after a month of “no sub gang” testing.
👇 Let’s hear it.
